Head of Learning and Engagement

Deadline - Thursday 03 January 2013 at 17:00

V&A at Dundee will be an international centre of design for Scotland. It will celebrate Scotland's historic importance in design and host major exhibitions of outstanding international design that will appeal to the widest public audience and help develop understanding of our own and others' cultural heritage. V&A at Dundee will become indispensable to makers, teachers and industry nationwide as a place for the cultivation and exchange of knowledge, opportunity and design innovation. It will develop opportunities for diverse communities to engage with, learn from and enjoy design creativity of the past, present and future. V&A at Dundee will play a vital role in Dundee's ambitious plans for regeneration, symbolising the city's high cultural and economic aspirations.

The Head of Learning and Engagement will play a critical role both in the development of the V&A at Dundee project and in running programmes and activities for a variety of audiences once the museum opens. During the pre-opening phase the post holder will implement a programme of activities which inspire the local community and wider Scottish audiences about design and its application, run a pre-opening education, professional and community engagement programme and contribute significantly to funding bids (including to HLF and major charitable trusts). You will make connections with representatives in the design, business and enterprise community, develop a learning strategy, appoint a team appropriate to delivering that strategy, propose a budget and set up projects for delivery post-opening. This is a challenging and extremely exciting post.
